Once upon a time, I had an experience that’s usually described as surreal. I couldn’t believe it was possible. I’ll clarify upfront that these photos aren’t here. And neither is the brand. But if you can put two and two together, you’ll understand.
You know, I have this method of finding clients where I reach out to a company and simply propose to shoot something beautiful. So, I came up with the idea to shoot a luxury car brand. I sometimes drove past this car dealership and thought about dropping by someday.
I took 5 photos of different types: exterior details, the interior with background replacement, etc. It turned out, as I thought, very cool! I really outdid myself in this shoot. By the way, that’s what free and creative shoots are for to try something new, experiment with light, hone your skills, and so on. So, the moment of truth: I send the photos to the marketing director. We agreed that they would post my photos on their social media and tag me.
But it wasn’t that simple. They replied: “We can’t use your photos because they’re too good and similar to the ones we take from German photo banks.” I was, of course, shocked by such “a compliment”. Later, I understood what they lacked, but for some reason, they couldn’t articulate it, unfortunately.
Here’s the thing. The photo is beautiful as if it were taken abroad (not in Russia), so it’s completely unclear why it was taken at our car dealership in Moscow. And if there were such an indication, for example, in the form of a banner or something similar, then it would have been suitable. However, I don’t understand why you can use photos from German photo banks but can’t use high-quality photos taken in Russia (even if it’s unclear that they were taken in Moscow). Social media looked something like this: a frame from a photo bank, a blurry photo on a phone, then again a photo bank, and so on. But I took note of this lesson. That’s the approach in marketing.
So, if you need overly beautiful photos – feel free to contact me. Besides interiors, I can also beautifully photograph close-ups of cars.
