Today I want to talk about two car workshops that use completely different materials in their work. Let’s start in chronological order.
The first cars were mostly made of wood. Matthew from Harrogate (Cowdery Coachworks) restores these types of cars. His father and grandfather also worked with wood, making both boats and cars, and he followed in their footsteps. It is not an easy job because working with wood has many details and nuances.

What I really liked about Matt’s workshop was its cleanliness: only wood shavings on the floor, no oil or fuel. I took some staged shots and photographed some workshop details.

The second workshop, GSG Bodyworks near London, focuses on modern car body repairs. I arrived at a spacious workshop. We tidied up a bit and started shooting. The marketing person asked me to show some painting and polishing processes. I had a few cars to work with: a Mercedes van and a classic English cab.

The workshop lighting was not ideal, so I brought a small set of flashes. Cleanliness and good lighting transformed the space, which at first looked like a typical cluttered car workshop, into a visually appealing set for photos.
