Why Interior Photography for Rentals Affects Booking Decisions

Good photos. Clear, bright, and detailed images that accurately depict the size of the rooms, furniture, and those small details that make a stay comfortable.
Poor visuals are especially frustrating when a property isn’t cheap, but you still can’t tell how big the kitchen is or whether the bedroom has enough storage. This is exactly where interior photography for rentals makes a real difference.
Property Rental Photography Brief: A Short-Term Let in Leeds
One day, I was contacted by Simon from Leeds. He asked me to photograph several rooms in his large house, which he rents out on a short-term basis to guests from all over the world.
It’s an affordable but cosy option for travellers who want their own kitchen, fridge, and a homely atmosphere. The goal of this property rental photography shoot was simple: show the space clearly and honestly, without overselling.
Airbnb Interior Photography: Showing Space, Light and Details
My task was to photograph the guest living room, bedrooms, and shared areas such as the bathroom and toilet.
The living room needed to feel spacious and welcoming. We focused on natural light, a comfortable sofa, and small touches like a breakfast setup — details that work particularly well for Airbnb interior photography.
One of the main bedrooms was large and bright, with a soft bed, side tables, a chair, and a full-height window. Temperature control, good storage, and even playful cat-themed wallpaper were all photographed, as these details help listings stand out on platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com.
Short-Term Rental Photography: Handling Small Rooms Professionally
Not all rooms were large. One bedroom was very compact, fitting only a bed and a chair — but it also had a built-in wardrobe.
Shooting small spaces is always a challenge in short-term rental photography. Shooting such a small space was a challenge, but thanks to my Canon full-frame camera and a Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 wide-angle lens, I was able to capture the entire room without distortion.
Hotel Interior Photography Results: Higher Prices and More Bookings
After the shoot, I followed up with Simon to see how the new photos performed.
The result? Bookings increased noticeably – even after he raised the rental price.
Why did it work? Because the images didn’t just look good. They showed what guests actually care about: space, comfort, extra features, and atmosphere. This is exactly why professional hotel interior photography and rental photography directly affect income, not just aesthetics.
